AT A ROMANTIC HILLTOP cocktail bar in Paris in April 2017, Kevin Stover asked Marina Pia Goldi to marry him. Following their European proposal, the duo linked up with Detroit Cultivated to plan their June 8 wedding at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms in Dexter. Along with booking day-of staples, Goldi’s knack for navigating Detroit’s retail and food scenes — as demonstrated on her blog, marinapiagoldi.com — made her a natural fit for crafting a registry reflective of both her and Stover’s interests. In a pre-nuptial takeover of a loft space along with Metro Detroit Weddings, the couple shares their must-have home items as well as their love for clean design, local businesses, and most importantly, each other.

You want something that’s going to be cohesive wherever you end up,” says Goldi, noting that she and Stover, who live in a Detroit apartment, plan to one day buy a house. “[Kevin’s] very specific on design and the way he likes things. I wear black [a lot]. I feel like [matte black dishware is] a perfect meld between us.”

“We are both so excited about Detroit’s comeback and the people and businesses that are taking the initiative to help make that happen,” says Stover, who works as an architect in the city. Goldi, who in addition to running her blog is a buyer in the steel industry in neighboring Dearborn, agrees, adding: “There are so many great stores, like Nora, Hugh, and Nest, that have amazing home pieces. I can’t go into any of them without buying at least one thing, whether it be a candle or jam or a coffee mug. Whether it’s a vintage piece from an antique store in Detroit or something that was handmade by a potter, to have something special like that — [something] that is a conversation piece — just adds to your story.”

“When I think of my office, there’s a few things I want,” says Goldi, who regularly posts photographs and articles about Detroit on her blog and her Instagram account (@motorcitymangia). “I want an Art Deco frame in gold hanging up, a really comfy throw over the chair [for when] you’re working long hours on the computer, and [inspirational] books. I also love florals. I’m a true believer that your house can be a mess, but if you have a bouquet of beautiful florals it completely changes the room. Planters, especially for larger plants, are so expensive, so it’s a great thing to register for.”
